Embrace the Bright This Spring! - Anna Wootton

Embrace the Bright This Spring!

Source

Spring fashion is ALL about the brights.

From electric shades of pink, yellow and orange to vibrant hues of blue (I am in LOVE with the shade of Kim K’s skirt, above) and green – your favourite colour is bound to be hot this spring so embrace it – wear it with pride!

For me, it’s all about the shade of colours. I LOVE mustard yellow but can’t wear it at all. I have a yellow undertone to my skin, so between that and my blonde hair, I look like one giant yellow nightmare with mustard yellow. If I’m going to wear yellow it has to be a brighter shade. Similarly, I can’t wear pastel anything – it just washes me out. It’s better on those with paler skin and fairer complexions than me.

So I went and did my best scouring online for some of my favourite brights in all colours, so hopefully there’s something in here you can embrace. Remember, you’re looking for:

  • your favourite colour
  • the most flattering shade of that colour
  • a piece you will actually wear – if you’re not bold enough for coloured pants, for example, then accessorize with a skinny belt or a bag in a bright

I tried to include something for everyone! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

KMart have a great Spring 2012 lookbook that really impressed me. I’ve never thought of shopping at KMart (well, they don’t even have them here in Canada, but I go over the border into Washington sometimes and have never considered making a stop at KMart). But some individual pieces here could really work.

I’ve featured a few of them throughout this post, but this piece is my favourite – this is the shade of yellow I can wear and I love it in this tank top with the neutral band on the V-neck. Gorgeous!

If you can pull off these cut-out (they’re mini hearts!) hot pink flat, I take my hat off to you. I love them for their cuteness, but cannot imagine them on. Someone prove me wrong and take a photo and send it to me!

This green is another favourite of mine, and this simple strapless green dress from Lulus.com is perfect. Its simple style lets the colour do the talking.

It’s also meant for us, I reckon, because it’s called the Blogsophere Strapless Green Dress. 😉

I LOVE orange. These KMart pants would take a certain bold personality to pull off but I say go for it, because they are a great colour!

Speaking of that mustard yellow colour I just can’t wear, perhaps I could manage as an accessory…I am majorly in love with this mustard yellow bag from Lulus.com and even more so with its price – just $45!

Another KMart outfit – I actually really love these shoes too, but the focus here is definitely the vibrant coral hue of the capris. If you want to go with a softer colour rather than a bolder colour, coral is the way to go. I already own a soft slouchy coral sweater from H&M and I LOVE it. It just brightens up your complexion!

Accessorize any outfit in style with this sparkly red belt from Modcloth.com. It’s only $12.99!

Wear orange to work with this chic and slimming black and orange pencil skirt from Lulus.com!

This green is fabulous. What a great colour and what an awesome bag! From Lulus.com.

Finally, here’s a quick and easy way to fit two brights into one – mustard yellow and a beautiful blue combine in this glossy flat to top off any neutral outfit. Pair with jeans, a white T and a neutral coloured scarf and you’re polished and stylish! From Modcloth.com.

And OF COURSE, remember that colour blocking is HUGE this spring. So you can always wear two or three of these colours in blocks and you’ll be up on two trends! 😉

QUESTIONS:

  • What’s your favourite bright colour this spring?
  • Any of the above looks stand out to you?
  • I am flying back as you read this, so from Monday hopefully blogging will be back to normal and I’ll have some pics to share! xx

I want to rock bright colors this spring too! Unfortunately I don’t have anything bright so I guess that’s an excuse to shop! I did recently buy a pair of red skinnies though but I want to try printed skinnies too.
